Lawyers from Puerto Rican Bar Association mentor St. Luke's Student
We are happy to announce the launch of a new mentorship program sponsored by the Puerto Rican Bar Association (PRBA). The program is designed especially for all seventh and eighth grade students, to help expand their horizons and guide them toward bright futures.
Through the PRBA Mentorship Program, court officials, attorneys, and other legal professionals visit the school once a month and talk to students about their careers. Once each semester, the students are taken on a field trip to a city, state, or federal courthouse, where they can witness first-hand how our justice system works, and meet the wide variety of professionals involved in the legal field.
From the very first visit at the start of this school year, students and teachers alike have embraced the program enthusiastically. Teachers are already incorporating exercises such as Mock Trials into their Social Studies curriculum, and students are responding very positively to this kind of active learning.
St. Luke's School is honored and very grateful to the prestigious Puerto Rican Bar Association for undertaking this wonderful program to help our kids begin to think about some of the professional opportunities that await them just a few short years ahead. We would especially like to thank PRBA president, Elba Galvan, Esq., and the Mentorship Program's coordinator, Marissa Soto, for their personal attention and support in implementing this program at St. Luke's School. We are also very grateful to Hector Torres, a St. Luke's School alumnus and partner at Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman LLP, who worked with the PRBA to sponsor this program.
If you belong to a professional organization that has similar mentorship programs for elementary and middle school students, please contact us! Our kids deserve every opportunity we can give them to succeed.
